Find out about Philips’ pioneering approach to innovation

You may be unaware that university researchers/spin-out companies and start-ups/SMEs can access Philips’ facilities and services to speed up innovations without the associated capital expenditure. This interactive discussion provides an opportunity to bring the issues and opportunities in healthcare and cleantech to the fore and will help you understand what big corporations have to offer and explain the issues that smaller companies have, for example:

  • Can a MNC help me get to market?
  • What about confidentiality?
  • Can I afford it?
  • What is the cost?
  • Will a MNC be able to meet my tight deadlines?

The experienced Philips team, through this interactive discussion, will share how their experience has been successful in working with start-up or small tech companies. To follow the lunchtime discussion, a limited number of 1-2-1 meetings with Philips can be arranged from 2.30pm onwards on the 15 December. Poul de Haan

Poul qualified as a Dutch patent attorney in 2004 and as a European Patent Attorney in 2005. He has a technical background in electronics engineering, with a Ph.D. degree from the University of Twente in 1995. Prior to joining Philips IP&S in 2001 he worked at what is now Philips Consumer Lifestyle's Advanced Technology Center in Drachten. Besides managing a modest part of the Philips patent portfolio in several business areas, over the years he has advised various businesses within Philips on a variety of IP issues including the IP aspects of collaborations with other companies. He gained further experience by his participation in a number of mergers & acquisitions projects. Until recently he worked closely with Philips Research on the IP aspects of various open innovation activities, such as contract research, spin-out of
lab ventures, and collaborations with universities. Currently he works within the IP scouting and acquisition team of Philips IP&S to identify and pursue opportunities to strengthen the Philips IP portfolio.

Leo has a keen interest in matching innovative technology to real world problems in a commercially sustainable way. Leo has more than 15 years, experience in insight-driven innovation and has managed venturing  pportunities on topics such as 'near field communication', 'asset tracking', 'ultra low power radio transceivers' and 'innovative drug delivery systems'. He currently represent Philips Innovation Services in the UK.
