UKTI Launch Range of Initiatives at One Central Park
A successful launch event by UKTI was hosted by UMIC at their Hi-Tech Incubator at One Central Park on 19 May and covered the support of businesses in Research and Development. Speakers included David Booth (International Trade Adviser and UKTI NW Lead for R&D, Innovation and High Growth) and Tony Brown ( International Trade Adviser ).
Attendees benefitted from Tony’s presentation on trading with international partners and how to avoid the major pit-falls, whilst David was pleased to announce details of the new Passport to Export R&D (P2E R&D) programme on offer to NW companies. Places on the programme are limited, although David stressed that companies who are not eligible are not excluded from the wider range of assistance in international trade, including those vital first introductions through embassies abroad. Following the presentations, attendees were able to have one to one discussions with the UKTI team and enjoy networking with other companies.
David noted, ‘UK Trade & Investment is proactively encouraging NW companies to look at overseas trade opportunities to aid the economic recovery. Our team of experienced International Trade Advisers are able to provide expert advice on all aspects of International Trade and work with companies in exploring the potential for new and expperienced exports. North West companies are leading the way in many new Products, Services, Technologies and Innovations and we look forward to working with UMIC tenants to successfully access global markets'.
Tony Walker, UMIC’s Business Incubator Manager for Hi-Tech companies added, ‘It is extremely valuable to add the services of UKTI to our portfolio offering. Many of our companies can gain significant advantage and growth by internationalising their R&D and services early. However this is a complex area and we need the services of UKTI and its experts to help navigate these difficult early stages of R&D commercialisation. The UKTI services and contacts are second to none and truly worldwide!. This will help many of our companies to make a step change in their expansion plans.’
David and his colleagues will now hold advice clinics every Wednesday at One Central Park. Tenant companies at OCP can drop-in during the morning session in Room 2.46 or arrange a meeting time in their own OCP office for a Wednesday afternoon.
