UMIC welcomes The University of Manchester "Cellular Therapeutics" team to The Incubator

A celebratory event for patients, supporters, funders and interested parties took place at the end of February at the CTF,, to celebrate the opening of the “Cellular Therapy Laboratory” at The Incubator Building.  The team, led by Prof. Robert Hawkins (Cancer Research UK Professor/Director of Medical Oncology Cell Therapy / ATTACK project coordinator) introduced the audience of over 90 attendees to the concept and vision behind the project, as well as the perceived ultimate benefits in the cancer therapy field.  Martino Picardo (Managing Director, UMIC Ltd.) attended the event, alongside representatives from the NWDA BioNoW cluster, including Director, Dr. Geoff Davison, as well as patients who have received immunotherapy treatments from Professor Hawkins’ clinical team at The Christie and donors to the Christie Appeals Charity who funded a grant to The University of Manchester to equip and refurbish the facility.  Guests took part in a tour of the facilities for supporters of the project. “This project is absolutely the type of leading edge research activity with potentially significant therapeutic benefit, which we should be attracting to our Incubator.  This represents the first of a number of projects that we hope to attract as a new generation of incubatees, beyond the recent graduation of DxS Ltd.  We wish Prof. Hawkins and his team (including Ryan Guest who will be part of the team located at The Incubator) every success with their pre-commercial clinical trials and we hope that we as an Incubation environment can make a significant contribution to the group’s future commercial plans moving forwards.”
