bloomtrigger Update
Intro…
World leaders acknowledged at the UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen that no deal to tackle Climate Change can succeed without including a solution to the issue of deforestation. The next two years will be a critical tipping point for those involved in rainforest conservation and it is bloomtrigger’s intention to place bloomtrigger in an ideal position to bridge the gap between the public face and the NGOs working on the ground.
The natural resources of rainforests will be one of the most highly valued assets for our future generations; we must find a way to stop destroying this wealth.
Global deforestation is a vast and complex issue. bloomtrigger aims to be one small, yet essential part of the solution. How to engage the millions of individuals who feel so far removed from this problem and powerless to have any meaningful influence to affect it?
The answer is to create a bloomtrigger!
The bloomtrigger project…
- Will generate £100 million.
- Will protect 1 million hectares of the most biodiverse rainforest on the planet.
- A vast, global creative project for the 21st Century.
- Creating the biggest collaboration of digital art ever.
bloomtrigger the organisation…
bloomtrigger is a creative non-profit organisation which aims to target individuals who aren’t necessarily interested in rainforest conservation. The aim is to engage people on an individual level to become a part of the bloomtrigger project. The intention is that together they will have a far greater collective influence against deforestation on a global scale.
bloomtrigger is not a rainforest charity, however bloomtrigger will raise funding for rainforest conservation, the strategy is to engage people primarily through offering unique, high quality services and products. We will [PT1] create a combined incentive, firstly where the services and products on offer are an opportunity for people to promote and further their own personal interests (For example a singer might wish to promote a new album or a business could market a new product through bloomtrigger), while at the same time empowering themselves with the tools to take direct and measurable action against global deforestation.
bloomtrigger based in the UK, will operate ‘the bloomtrigger project’ as a global online community responsible for creating the biggest digital art project of the 21st Century. Individuals will be able to contribute images to grow this collaborative piece of digital art. Whatever images an individual chooses to add will unavoidably promote their personal interests, whether this is literally themselves or their business or whatever else it is they are passionate about. It is a form of social advertisement: for each image added, a small piece of rainforest will be protected forever. It will be accessible to all people, however large or small their artistic contribution. As a global project it will attract a diverse following, creating a bloomtrigger with a life of its own, constantly changing its form.
A critical success factor is bloomtrigger’s ability to go viral. This is key to bloomtrigger’s online marketing strategy, which will generate £100M in order to protect 1 million hectares of the most biodiverse rainforest in the world.
bloomtrigger’s long-term objectives…
bloomtrigger will create a brand that individuals can easily identify with. They will have shared values based on honesty, transparency and a grassroots quality. Those who choose to become a part of the project will form ‘the bloomtrigger generation’.
bloomrigger will build a loyal following, resulting in over 3 million individuals and 300,000 companies by the successful completion of the first bloomtrigger project.
Once the first bloomtrigger proves successful, it will become a beacon for future generations to replicate. With an endowment fund established, a new series of bloomtrigger projects can be launched.
How these long-term objectives will be achieved…
bloomtrigger’s wider vision is to raise the profile and understanding of deforestation. This will be achieved through harnessing the most current social, technological, economic, environmental and creative trends, channelling them into a simple common language that people can relate to.
This begins with children at the Primary school level. bloomtrigger has already successfully completed the first trials of ‘the future project’, a children friendly version of the bloomtrigger, intended to empower young children to grow their own share of the rainforest.
This will provide an easy way for local businesses to engage with their communities and gain clear recognition for providing funding that not only supports this innovative and creative approach to rainforest education, but also enables children to protect actual rainforest on the ground.
So far a demand has been created to expand ‘the future project’ further throughout the primary schools system. This element of the bloomtrigger will act as the ideal catalyst for increasing awareness and growth of the main project, as children all have families who work for or run influential businesses, which could in turn become a part of the bloomtrigger.
bloomtrigger’s next step…
The next key milestone is for bloomtrigger to become ‘Investor Ready’ and we require an initial investment of £15k to enable James Sutton to finish the business case.
The work involves resolving the numerous elements that will need to be in place in order to present a comprehensive value proposition to bloomtrigger’s potential benefactor/s.
The full business plan and a powerful and compelling presentation are the main value outputs from this initial work.
A 10-point action plan is attached as part of our £15K leverage funding proposal attached.
The management team…
Currently in at the development stage, bloomtrigger relies upon a collaborative approach and is successfully growing its network of support.
Committed specialists already include graphic designers, developers, environmental, legal, copyright, business, PR & marketing strategists.
Founder & Director: James Sutton – James is driven by creating a new model of fundraising through his vision of bloomtrigger. His journey began with a simple idea and a passion for rainforest conservation. The original concept began while developing a new product after graduating in Architecture from Nottingham University. For the last 12 months James has committed himself completely into turning this project into a reality, working as a marketing executive and dedicating his remaining time to progressing bloomtrigger.
- Business development: Dr Martino Picardo & Dr Laura Etchells – UMIC (Manchester University Incubator Company). Assist bloomtrigger during its incubation period with seeking specialist support and funding.
- Strategy Consultant: Phil Tapsell – CEO of TechVenture Solutions and worked with Richard Farleigh (BBC Dragons Den) on Business Development. Phil advises on business strategy in the role of a Non-Executive Director.
- Systems Architecture Consultant: Dr Babis Theodoulidis – MBS (Manchester Business School). bloomtrigger was successful in receiving an innovations voucher award, which was used to fund the development of a requirements specification, which was undertaken by Babis.
- Rainforest Conservation Charities:
- Rainforest Concern – London based NGO
- The Crees Foundation – London based philanthropic foundation.
- The World Land Trust – UK based NGO
- Rainforest Rescue – Australian based NGO
These rainforest NGOs have fully endorsed the bloomtrigger project and provide continual support with the view to become project partners when bloomtrigger is operational.
- Independent Rainforest Conservation Consultants:
- Dr Mika Peck – University of Sussex.
- Rosana Della Méa – Freelance REDD specialist consultant.
Mika & Rosana are assisting with the ongoing development of the ‘protection in perpetuity conservation strategy’ which will determine exactly how the protection of 1 million hectares of rainforest will be implemented.
- Artistic consultants:
- Jimi Goodwin – musician & lead singer of Doves.
- Matt Black – British DJ & one half of the music duo Coldcut.
As well as bringing their high profile status, Jimi & Matt bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the project, offering artistic support with developing a large scale creative project.
The value of financing a bloomtrigger…
bloomtrigger requires £250k of seed funding for development and launch, up to the point when it becomes self financing. bloomtrigger needs a benefactor – someone with a passion for rainforest conservation and who can bring relevant skills to strengthen our management team. In return, the benefactor has the opportunity to connect with the bloomtrigger Generation and create a legacy which will extend far beyond anything that could be achieved alone.
The future of bloomtrigger…
The initial challenge is to create the first bloomtrigger within three years.
When successful it will establish a new ‘tried and tested’ model for fundraising, which we will replicate and expand upon for other causes, using a ‘white label’ approach, with the advantage for bloomtrigger to extend it’s reach to wider audiences.
The mechanism we are developing through bloomtrigger has the potential to capture the imaginations of our generation and engage their individuality and creativity towards this vitally important cause.
