UMIC Team has Good Fun for Good Causes
UMIC, the facilities management and business support service provider for the University of Manchester, is delighted to hand over £2,300, to support the work of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and The Christie.
The UMIC team are raising money to help save lives and to support the BHF’s campaign against heart disease – the UK’s biggest killer – and fund vital projects at The Christie, one of Europe’s leading cancer centres.
UMIC Event Sales and Conferencing Manager, Jacqui Waby explains why these charities were chosen.
“We decided to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and The Christie because everyone knows someone whose life has been touched by either heart disease or cancer. My father died suddenly from heart disease 10 years ago, and several of my family, friends and colleagues have been affected by cancer so these are both causes that I am particularly passionate about. In addition a number of UMIC tenant companies work in research and development directly associated with both charities so there is a natural link there.”
The goal is to raise a minimum of £5,000 by the end of 2010 with a programme of events and fundraising activities. That got off to a spectacular start with the first wave of fundraising activities including a Quiz Night, Christmas Fair and Charity Auction. Further fundraising events and activities are planned over the coming months.
Shirley McNally, Fundraising Volunteer Manager, for the British Heart Foundation in Manchester, said: “Heart disease can affect anyone, young, old, male or female – it doesn’t discriminate. We all know someone who has been affected by heart disease.
We really appreciate the huge effort that people put into raising funds for the charity to enable us to continue our life saving work.”
Ste Anderson, Community Fundraising Officer, for The Christie, said:
“The Christie cares for cancer patients from across the north west. It is only with the support of people like the team at UMIC that we can continue our battle to achieve or aim of a future without cancer. “
