A Division of UMI³

UMI³ was created on 1st August 2011, following the merger of the University’s business incubation services provider, UMIC, and its Intellectual Property commercialisation company, UMIP.

The name I³ (I-cubed) reflects the entrepreneurial spirit of both operational divisions: Inspire/Invent/Innovate and we shall seek to reinforce this spirit through an Entrepreneurship Forum, the aim of which will be to unite the external community, whose interests lie in entrepreneurship and innovation, with the University’s academic/research community through a series of workshops, seminars and events.

Both UMIC’s and UMIP’s brands and business activities remain, with UMIC continuing to provide world-class business incubation facilities for University spin-out companies and conferencing & events facilities, with an added emphasis on its new role as an Innovation Centre. UMIP continues to provide intellectual property commercialisation activities on behalf of the University.

UMIC and UMIP have worked side by side for the past 6 years to ensure the seamless transition of academic innovation from idea to marketplace either via spin-out creation or licence to third parties and have established a well-regarded international reputation for University innovation.
