Manchester IT company runner-up in Daily Telegraph Trailblazer Award
Friday 20th July, 2007
Manchesters Greenlight Computers reached the final of the CPP/Daily Telegraph Trailblazer Awards 2007, a national competition to celebrate promising young businesses.
Greenlight Computers was one of six young businesses to reach the finals and finished the event as runner-up, taking home a trophy from the awards ceremony, which was held at The Ivy restaurant in London on Monday.
Based in the University of Manchester Incubator Companys (UMIC) business incubation space at One Central Park, Greenlight Computers was formed last year by Gary Dodson and John Sewell to solve everyday computer problems for businesses, homeworkers and families.
Dodson and Sewell, who have over 40 years of IT industry experience, with companies such as ICL, Fujitsu and Celestica, realised that there was a gap in the market for local reliable IT support and that people needed mobile technicians who could be the first point of contact for clients.
In our opinion, consumers have become weary of using helpdesks with agents that change each time you call explained John Sewell. That is why our customers talk to their personal technician directly and build up a solid working relationship with them. Each of our mobile technicians operates, as far as possible, inside a 10 mile radius of their own home so they can respond quickly, be cost effective, limit the environmental impact and offer a personal service.
Gary Dodson of Greenlight Computers said: To reach the finals in a competition of this calibre is a great achievement, and for a company in its first year, quite a boost to our confidence. We look forward to building on the reputation we have established in the years to come.
Tony Walker, UMIC Business Incubation Manager at One Central Park said: Greenlight’s service offering is a combination of the ‘high tech, high touch’ needed nowadays. The proliferation of computers in the home and workplace is still demanding responsive, quality service provision. The experience of technical and service delivery combined in Greenlight offers a vision for those frustrated with the automated helpline and seemingly humanless, process driven solutions that companies seem to think is suitable. The fact that they are runners up in such a prestige competition is a recognition that the customer, and servicing him, is still king.
