Just nine months after the opening of Stockport’s Broadstone Knowledge Mill incubator programme one of its innovative tenants has already caught the attention of international superstar George Michael. I-Pix, a pioneering LED technology business, had its ‘Satellite’ lighting technology selected for the UK-leg of George’s recent tour and the technology has also been used by other bands including Keane and The Beautiful South. iPix has also recently supplied 70 Satellite fixtures to Endemol for the National Lottery Draw Studios with other TV projects including Jim’ll Fix it and Duets Impossible for the BBC.

Tony Walker, Incubation Manager for the University of Manchester Incubator Company Limited (UMIC) backed incubator, comments: “The fact that I-Pix’s satellite technology has been so quickly adopted by lighting designers on such prestigious live shows as these demonstrates the strength of this technology.

“We are delighted that the professional accommodation and guidance on offer at Broadstone Knowledge Mill incubator has helped I-Pix to bring its technology to market and we look forward to continuing to help innovative technology businesses to establish themselves.”

A landmark building in Houldsworth Village, Stockport for the last 100 years, The Broadstone Mill has been refurbished to provide incubation space for high technology businesses. Known as the Broadstone Knowledge Mill, the facility provides flexible accommodation and a secure environment in which start-up companies such as I-Pix can grow.

Head of Sales at I-Pix, Tony Cameron, concludes: “The Satellite technology is popular because it provides breathtaking effects but is also robust, saving costs on repairs and air conditioning as onstage heat is kept to a minimum.

“Used for visual effect and illumination, the Satellite LED technology works alongside existing lighting and has received excellent feedback from lighting designers. The hi-tech office space and facilities at Broadstone Knowledge Mill have really helped to get our business off the ground and we look forward to making further use of the business support network that is available”
