D2M provides independent review and advice on grant applications

The Board of D2M sits on a number grant panels and has many years of experience in focusing applications towards the needs of a given ‘call’. UMIP and various UMIC Incubator Companies have used this service with significant success. The service has been able to suggest refinement of objectives, work plans, addition of supportive evidence and often an holistic view of the potential benefits of the work which a number of applicants have found useful.

Dr Mat Upton added: ‘Bill Dawson had a significant input into a number of funding applications in 2009 and 2010, including a successful BBSRC Pathfinder award. His comments were very constructive and made the proposals stronger, particularly with respect to generation of data that would increase the likelihood of attracting commercial partners or meeting regulatory requirements.’

Dr Mat Upton is lecturer in Medical Microbiology and Director of the University of Manchester MSc in Medical and Molecular Microbiology.
