NWDA innovation voucher gives light relief to plant scientists

With the help of NWDA finance for business, Stopford Workshop Ltd, a Stockport Incubator tenant, trials its innovative LED lighting system for plant science growth cabinets with The University of Manchester. Launched by the NWDA in late 2008, innovation vouchers help small companies across the region to access knowledge and expertise in higher education.

In conjunction with plant science customers at The University, Stopford Workshop Ltd had begun to design a low-energy alternative to conventional growth systems. The company’s prototype growth cabinet uses 75% less energy than conventional systems, requires low maintenance costs and removes another major cost arising from ambient air cooling needs within plant science laboratories.

Stopford Workshop Ltd is using the voucher to expand trials of the prototype. For more information visit www.stopfordworkshop.co.uk

2009 rounds for innovation voucher applications take place during April-May and August. For more information visit www.nwdabusinessfinance.co.uk/innovation-vouchers
