UMIC appoints non-executive Board members

From 1 September, Dr Paul Kemp, Chief Scientific Officer of Intercytex and Graham Alcock, at Baker Tilly in Manchester join as non-executive board members of The University of Manchester Incubator Company. Paul and Graham bring their expertise to one of the UK’s leading business incubators for a period of 3 years.

Chief Scientific Officer at Intercytex (AIM ticker ICX.L) since 2005, Dr Paul Kemp is responsible for a team of 14 scientists based in laboratories in Manchester, Sheffield and Boston. Intercytex is a healthcare company providing novel cell therapy technology for regenerating human skin and hair, and was founded by Dr Kemp in 1999.

Paul is a recognized leader in the field of commercial regenerative medicine, with many published research papers and patents granted. He has been on the Board of Intercytex since its formation in 1999.  He also chairs the Scientific Advisory Board of Odontis, and is a member of the management committee of the UK Stem Cell Bank and the MRC’s Translational Stem Cell Research Committee. Prior to founding Intercytex, Paul held several senior research positions, including Vice President for Connective Tissue Science, with the US-based biotechnology company Organogenesis.

 

During a career spanning over forty years, Graham Alcock has been a high profile supporter and ambassador of businesses across Greater Manchester. He has held a number of positions with the Royal Bank of Scotland – including Head of Business Development, Regional Manager for Corporate Banking, and Senior Director of Commercial Banking. Here, as part of his role, Graham led a team of Relationship Mangers who specialised in the professional and technology sectors.

Whilst at RBS, Grahams was also a committee member of a number of well-known organisations, including the Institute of Fiscal Studies in the North West, Professional Careers North West and a Director of Manchester Business School Incubator Limited.. He was also chairman of Pro.Manchester during 2003. Since 2006, Graham has been Director of Business Development at the Manchester office of Baker Tilly. He is also Non-Executive Chairman of both Whiteaway Laidlaw Bank Limited and Hilton Ventures plc and a Non-Executive Director at New East Manchester Limited.
